Community Resources

It takes an entire community to support the whole person who is experiencing cancer.  These programs and organizations serve those who are in different phases of the cancer journey in Southwest Colorado.

Cancer Coalition of Southwest Colorado

The Cancer Coalition of Southwest Colorado provides small grants for non-medical expenses to individuals undergoing cancer treatment, and educates communities about cancer, its prevention, and early detection.

Cancer Resource Alliance

The Cancer Resource Alliance’s mission started out as helping with the fight against breast and reproductive cancers in women, but they have expanded their mission to include providing financial assistance to any resident in their area who has had a recent cancer diagnosis.

Journey of Hope

To promote early detection of cancer, the Journey of Hope Fund provides free mammograms to women in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, and San Juan counties who cannot otherwise afford them. The goal of the fund is to ensure that all women have access to mammography, regardless of their ability to pay. This program is administered by Mercy Health Foundation at Mercy Regional | Centura Medical Center in Durango. Please link to the website for contact and qualification information.

Women’s Wellness Connection

The Women’s Wellness Connection is a statewide program administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment that provides free breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic testing for eligible women. Women aged 40-65 who are uninsured or underinsured and up to 250% of the federal poverty level qualify. Visit the website to verify eligibility and find the provider in Southwest Colorado.
