Live by Living

connecting cancer survivors and their caregivers with nature and one another

COMMUNITY IS STRONGER THAN CANCER

How Our Community Can Help You

Live by Living was founded in 2008 by Dan Miller, who lives north of Denver. The program was inspired by the life of Julie Wrend, his wife of 15 years, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 34. After finding she had Stage IV breast cancer, she walked and hiked herself into shape, and backpacked from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to the Colorado River and back. Whenever she suffered a setback, she found solace and healing by hiking, skiing, and going on hut trips to the Tenth Mountain Division cabins deep in Colorado’s mountains.

Julie loved the outdoors and considered the mountains and deserts to be her church. She drew great emotional, spiritual, and physical benefits from her outdoor adventures. Julie never let her cancer define her. Rather, she used it as inspiration for spiritual and emotional growth.

After losing Julie to a nineteen-year battle with breast cancer, Dan wanted to share the benefits that he and Julie received from being in nature with other people who are trying to deal with cancer.

Join us and enjoy our hikes, snowshoe trips, and the serenity of nature. Spend time with Live by Living friends, where support and friendships inspire hope. To learn more about our local Live by Living activities, visit our community calendar.
